Abstract

This study analyzed the relationship between inbound tourism and labor income in the Apurímac region during the 2004–2025 period. A quantitative, applied, non-experimental research design with an explanatory-causal scope was employed. The analysis focused on the Saywite Archaeological Center, Ampay Lagoon, and the Archaeological Anthropological Museum using the Local Projections econometric model. The results indicated that the effects of tourism are not immediate, as they are transmitted with a time lag. In particular, a 1% increase in tourism at Saywite generates a 10.7% increase in labor income in May, although it subsequently declines by 7.4% in August. Likewise, Ampay Lagoon shows a decrease of 11.6% in June, a recovery of 9.1% in November, and a decline of 14.4% in December, while the Archaeological Anthropological Museum records a 10.7% reduction in labor income in August. In conclusion, tourism significantly impacts labor income in Apurímac; however, its effects are heterogeneous and lagged, making it necessary and urgent to design and implement promotion and infrastructure policies to enhance the economic benefits of tourism.
