Abstract

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of canine parvovirus infection and assess factors associated with test positivity in dogs presenting with severe diarrhea to Patitas Blue Veterinary Clinic in Urubamba during 2023–2024. A total of 261 clinical records of dogs with compatible clinical signs and valid diagnostic test results were analyzed. The overall prevalence of canine parvovirus infection was 67.8% (177/261). Test positivity was higher in dogs aged 0–6 months than in those aged 6–12 months (71.2% vs. 50.0%; OR = 2.48; p = 0.007) and in unvaccinated dogs compared with vaccinated dogs (77.6% vs. 40.6%; OR = 5.07; p < 0.001). An interaction between age and vaccination status was identified (interaction OR = 0.23; p = 0.041). No statistically significant associations were found with sex, breed, geographic origin, or year of presentation. In conclusion, test positivity was high and was associated with age and vaccination history in the clinical population studied; these findings cannot be generalized to the overall canine population of Urubamba.
